The Royal Ship Hotel gets a seamless installation without losing revenue

The Royal Ship Hotel has recently undergone a massive upgrade to their Fire Alarm system, all without disrupting day-to-day operations and losing any revenue. The hotel is a Grade II listed, 19th century coaching inn situated in the heart of the old market town of Dolgellau, near Snowdonia National Park.

Hyfire’s partner, Fire Queen Limited, were asked to provide a quotation for a wireless system replacement and conversion. However, the customer did not want to lose revenue or disruption caused to normal operations.

Planning out the Royal Ship Hotel installation

The building’s previous Fire Alarm system was initially an older Hyfire wireless system combined with a Hyfire hard-wired system. Both systems had been installed separately at different dates and had individual Fire Panels which were linked together. Over the last 15 years the systems had been amended several times, also numerous devices had been replaced and renovations to the property carried out.

Essentially, the mixture of equipment all with different ages and conditions that were starting to develop age related faults. Furthermore, the building’s layout had changed many times throughout the years.  The combination of these factors along with having 2 separate Fire Panels in 2 different locations was becoming frustrating and confusing for the team onsite.

All the wireless equipment required upgrading due to its age. Moreover, understandably the end client didn’t want to lose revenue from the 21 Rooms they have to offer. Fire Queen set to work putting a plan in place and confirming the Radio Signal Strengths throughout the building,  which is a vital part of the install due to the thickness of the walls in historic buildings. Once they were happy with the strengths and equipment locations they could commence with the works.

The installation and end result

The team from Fire Queen liaised with the management team to ascertain room bookings so they could arrange the schedule of works. Once confirmed they planned the installation around this, to ensure no loss of fire protection or revenue. If it were a hard-wired installation, the installation would have taken around 6 weeks, including the aesthetic aspect. However, with some works done in house prior to attendance, the project took 1 week onsite to complete without affecting decoration.
