With 600 individual rooms spread across the 20 storey building, Helix Tower offers university students a clean, spacious and, more importantly, safe place to stay as they pursue their education. Hyfire played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of the structure, students and staff by providing the Evacuation Alert System, crucial in safeguarding high rise buildings.
Helix Tower’s much needed upgrade
Located in Wembley, home to the world famous Wembley Arena, Helix Tower is the perfect accommodation for those enrolled in the various universities in the area. The Evacuation Alert System was installed alongside other works on the building, as it underwent a complete refit. Hyfire’s partner, Gemini AMPM Ltd., worked closely with the client to ensure a safe and efficient environment.

Adhering to important guidelines
In 2019, the British Standards Institute issued a new fire safety standard: BS 8629. The guidance is a “code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of evacuation alert systems for use by fire and rescue services in buildings containing flats”.
Although it’s important not to confuse said “evacuation alert system” with a Fire Alarm System, the new standard is revolutionary and especially helpful at assisting Fire and rescue services in high-rise blocks of flats over 18 meters.
Helix Tower fully adheres to this new standard. The whole system is controlled from an on-site panel, accessible to only Fire and Rescue Services. In the event that an instruction is issued to evacuate the whole building, the alarm is activated and emits a unique, easily identifiable sound, different and separate from the fire alarm system within the building.
