Who protects those who protect us? The fire brigade, an essential pillar of society, consisting of people who put their lives on the line to protect people and infrastructure. At Hyfire we share the same goal: keeping people and their environment safe. In partnership with M&G Fire Protection Ltd., and working closely with Lead Designers Ingleton Wood, Hyfire recently installed 250 Taurus devices at Orsett Fire Station, providing a secure operational base for the brigade to serve the community.
Enhancing Orsett Fire Station
Orsett Fire Station, located in Essex, recently underwent full refurbishment and remodelling throughout, to upgrade the dormitory areas and general provision for the station personnel, whilst also incorporating important safety measures to the station.
“The consultant had specified they wanted a wireless fire alarm system, to minimise downtime and install the alarm as quickly as possible” Steve Middleton, Director at M&G Fire Protection Ltd. The results were astonishing. Because of Taurus’ intuitive and easy-to-install design, it was the most obvious choice due to its better signal strengths and the speed of setup.
Although the consultant had specified they wanted a wireless system, the void detectors, already present on the first floor, were hardwired. Steve’s team set up a three-loop system, one per floor and one for the engine shed. Since Hyfire’s devices are so easy and quick to install, the installation was completed on-site within 10 working days. Steve Middleton confirmed that “there were no disruptions, the engineers were in and out of each room within a few minutes”.
Hyfire provides an extensive array of commercial-grade wireless fire devices, including optical, multi-criteria, and heat detectors, as well as EN54-23 Approved VADs. Each product is fully certified to EN54 standards and meets the rigorous performance and quality benchmarks of the industry. Additionally, all devices comply with BS5839 Part 1 standards.
Smooth sailing
Thanks to the TauREX software, the team at M&G Fire Protection was able to pre-setup the whole system off of the data they got by surveying the Fire Station. As a matter of fact, the survey turned out to be the trickiest part of the project, as a couple of areas at the back of the building required a very accurate installation in order to get the translators and the expander network to work. By carefully surveying this temperamental area, the team got all the infrastructure in place to have a smooth and straightforward installation.
Born in Trieste, Italy, Taurus showcases Pathfinder Technology. This advancement enables devices to communicate over 1km in open air, with further reach through expansion hops. Optimised antenna technology facilitates communication across various frequencies and environments, ensuring Taurus operates efficiently with fewer batteries and equipment, resulting in major cost savings.
The client was delighted with the results. Due to the M&G team’s efficiency and Hyfire’s groundbreaking wireless fire alarm system, Orsett Fire Station is now fully protected in cases of emergencies. Launched in 2007, Hyfire brings to market some of the first commercial wireless detection and alarm devices fully certified to EN54. With the help of their many partners throughout the UK and Ireland, Hyfire ensures the safety of the community and, in this case, those who the community relies on.
