Residents have finally returned home to a west country block of flats. This is largely due to the quick and efficient installation by Sureserve Fire and Electrical of Hyfire’s Taurus Wireless Fire Alarm system.
As work began in the following months to resolve all major issues, the last step was ensuring the block was properly covered by a fire alarm system.
Ensuring a safe return
The Hyfire Taurus Wireless system was selected due to the installer Sureserve Fire and Electrical extensive experience and proven success with it in numerous other buildings. The system’s benefits, including its rapid and reliable installation, were key factors in the decision. Ross Webb, at Sureserve Fire and Electrical, commented, “We’ve completed several other blocks with Hyfire, and we’ve had nothing but praise”.
“The building was pretty straightforward – remarked Webb – although we weren’t able to gain access into the flats prior to the survey”. The Taurus system allows for pre-programming of all devices before installation, minimising the time required on site. Additionally, the system can adapt and evolve with changes on site. As often happens with old buildings, the plans may differ from the current state of the building. In this case, some open balconies had been enclosed and converted into larger lounges. Thanks to Taurus’s flexibility, once the installer Sureserve Fire and Electrical gained access to the flats and noted the changes, they could easily recalculate the requirements and install additional devices to cover these spaces.
Sureserve Fire and Electrical, based in West Sussex, have developed their quality service over 30 years, as specialists in the design, supply, installation and maintenance of safety systems, providing compliance and testing services.
This covers a comprehensive range of physical infrastructure and safety materials required for a building to respond to the outbreak of fire, save lives and protect buildings.
Sureserve Fire and Electrical also provides electrical compliance services which focus on lighting and power installations, ensuring regulatory compliance and power efficient buildings for managing cost and total cost of ownership of systems.
The team fitted the building with 706 devices and 48 translators running on an advanced eight loop panel. This massive endeavour was remarkably carried out in only 6 weeks. Ross Webb stated that: “The fact that the building was empty made it a lot easier. However, Hyfire’s Taurus devices also facilitate the process, our engineers love the interface for plotting the devices. It’s also more transferable to the client, so the client really benefits from seeing the survey”.
Building on Hyfire’s extensive experience in wireless fire protection, Taurus introduces a completely new protocol, wireless network, and a range of high-performance detection, control, and alarm devices. The key to this successful system is design and specification, this is where Hyfire’s TauREX software comes in. Featuring a user-friendly graphical interface and innovative new functions, TauREX helps optimise and specify the Taurus system for each site in a simple and intuitive way.
A speedy installation
Webb reports that the client was extremely impressed with the speed of the installation and the outcome. As this was the final step in safely reoccupying the building, it received significant media coverage. Luckily the installation went swiftly and smoothly. “They were really pleased, because it was short notice and they were impressed with the mobilisation from us and Hyfire as well”, concludes Ross Webb.
Established in 2007, Hyfire entered the market with pioneering wireless detection and alarm devices, which were among the first to be fully certified to EN54 standards. Over the years, the Hyfire brand has earned a reputation for excellence, reliability, and groundbreaking innovation within the commercial fire industry.
Hyfire’s Taurus wireless alarm system not only managed to ensure the historic tower block’s safety, but it also allowed residents to re-inhabit the day after the system was installed.
