St. Leger Residential Park Homes comprise three distinctive park homes spread across Doncaster: Cow House Lane, Mount Pleasant and Orange Croft. Providing each residence with a comprehensive Fire Alarm System was a massive task which, due to the nature of the project, required ingenuity and creative thinking.
Scott Pollock, of OpenView Security Solutions who carried out the installation, states “We were approached by St Leger to develop a solution for a unique challenge across three of their residential park home sites.” The main concern was the separation distance between the park homes, which heightened the risk to life and could facilitate the spread of fire. After thorough consideration, the OpenView Security Solutions team recommended an L5 wireless system.
Enter Hyfire
Luckily the stars aligned, Scott Pollock notes: “We had recently begun collaborating with Hyfire at the same time we were engaged by St Leger, so timing was a perfect fit.” The L5 wireless system was typically used in high rise buildings to mitigate vertical fire spread, by applying this same principle horizontally the St. Leger sites could benefit from that same level of protection, without the need of disrupting residents’ lives.
Hyfire’s Taurus wireless system was a perfect match, having proven successful in projects of similar sizes or even larger scale. Taurus was identified early on as the best fit due to the speed it can be deployed, the minimal disruption it causes to residents. Moreover, the Taurus wireless fire system offers exceptional reliability and performance with its SafePath Mesh Expander Technology. In the event of an expander failure, the system automatically reroutes the transmission, ensuring continuous communication.
Cabling between each park home for detection and sounders would have been incredibly challenging, time-consuming, and expensive. Therefore, opting for Hyfire’s wireless system was the most cost-effective solution while maintaining high reliability. Every Taurus wireless fire protection device comes equipped with Hyfire SafeSwitch dual redundant channel technology. This means if one channel fails, the other seamlessly takes over, delivering exceptional reliability and performance in all scenarios.
The end result
The project was quite sizable, with over 200 devices installed across the three residences. The Taurus wireless fire alarm system, in fact, is well-suited for both small to medium-sized and large commercial sites. It supports up to 128 devices per wireless translator and 240 devices per hybrid loop. Additionally, input devices have a battery life of 10 years, while output devices last for five years. By the end of it, both the client and the installer were extremely pleased with the outcome. Scott Pollock concludes: “We are absolutely delighted to have played a pivotal part in providing this solution for St Leger and its residents”.
